AI in Education: Fad or Future?
Saturday October 26, 2024 9:45am - 10:35am PDT
Is AI in education just a passing fad or the future of teaching and learning? Edtech tools come and go, but great teaching remains.  In this session, we will move away from the novelty of AI to focus on leveraging it to save teachers time, gain formative assessment data, increase immediate feedback, and provide innovative engaging learning experiences that meet the needs of all our learners. When these tools are leveraged effectively, teachers will experience the success that we all dreamed of when we first started our journey in education. Let's do this!

Personalizing Scientific Inquiry: AI Chatbots for Diverse Learning Needs
Saturday October 26, 2024 10:40am - 11:30am PDT
Gain hands-on experience with an innovative educational technology tool in this session where you'll create a student-facing AI-assisted Scientific Method Chatbot. This powerful tool provides personalized scaffolds to support diverse learning needs, enabling students to design experiments around problems that matter to them. By developing this chatbot, you'll not only acquire practical skills in leveraging AI for education but also reimagine how we support scientific inquiry, paving the way for more effective, personalized science learning experiences.

The heart of our session focuses on collaborative chatbot creation. Working hands-on with the teacher-facing AI, you'll learn to generate scaffolded questions for each step of the scientific method, targeting specific learning challenges. You'll gain skills in customizing AI-generated prompts to guide students through complex concepts like hypothesis formation, variable identification, and data analysis. Throughout this process, we'll focus on refining AI suggestions to encourage critical thinking and support diverse learning needs.

As we wrap up, we’ll shift to practical strategies for implementation. You'll leave with a clear, actionable plan for integrating this dual AI-enhanced approach into your curriculum, making complex scientific concepts more accessible and fostering a more supportive learning environment.

Learning Objectives:
Participants will:
Develop 5-7 customized, AI-generated prompts addressing learning challenges in scientific inquiry.
Design a functional AI-assisted Scientific Method Chatbot with 3+ personalized scaffolds.
Make a micro-commitment to integrate the AI chatbot into curriculum, enhancing personalized learning.
